Cold air arrives; Gansu fully commits to snow removal and ice breaking to ensure smooth traffic

Affected by a cold air outbreak, Gansu Province has recently encountered extensive snowfall, particularly across 67 counties and districts. In response to this situation, the provincial capital, Lanzhou, quickly initiated its emergency plan, with various departments coordinating to carry out snow removal and ice breaking efforts to ensure traffic flows smoothly. In these snow removal operations, the application of snow removal machinery played a crucial role.

1. Mobilization and Deployment of Snow Removal Machinery: Gansu Province has mobilized over 300 emergency machines and approximately 1,700 emergency responders to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic on main routes. These machines include various types of snow removal vehicles that have been deployed to the most severely affected areas, such as Lanzhou, Yinchuan, Pingliang, and Longnan, with management strengthened through video dispatching and telephone supervision.

2. Types and Functions of Snow Removal Machinery: The machinery used includes snow plows, snow sweepers with roller brushes, snow removal vehicles, and large-scale deicing spreaders. These devices can efficiently clear snow and prevent road icing, ensuring the safe passage of vehicles.

3. Snow Removal Operation Mode: The highway maintenance and operation units in Gansu Province have adopted a "tiered" snow removal operation mode, utilizing snow removal vehicles, multifunctional snow removal vehicles, and deicing spreaders, implementing a continuous operation approach where "the machine does not stop while people take breaks," fully committed to snow removal to prevent skidding and ensure traffic flows smoothly.

4. Snow Removal Effectiveness and Efficiency: According to reports, as of December 11, the Gansu Provincial Highway Development Center had dispatched a significant number of emergency rescue personnel, dealt with extensive snow-covered sections, and used substantial amounts of anti-skid materials and deicing agents. These figures demonstrate the large-scale commitment and efficient operation of Gansu Province in snow removal work.

5. Multi-Department Coordination: The transportation system in Gansu Province has leveraged the "all hands on deck" coordination mechanism, strengthening collaboration with meteorological and traffic control departments to issue early warnings and forecasts, and taking effective traffic control measures in a timely manner. Cooperation with traffic police departments has been enhanced to prepare for diversions and emergency support.
